Body building is about more than turning yourself into the next Arnold Schwarzenegger (the 1980s Arnold, not the current, Governor of California Arnold). Most people think that body building is all about making your muscles obscenely large. The simple truth is that body building is all about strengthening your muscles and then building them up to give you a "prettier" physique. It isn't about "getting ripped." It is far more about health than anything else. This article contains useful tips for people who are interested in starting their own body building workout routine. Don't ever forget that in body building your health comes first and your physique comes last.

Learn how to breathe correctly. Breathing correctly is essential to a body building exercise routine. Holding your breath is not a good idea. Oxygen is important for keeping muscles healthy so you want to take in as much as you can. Use your diaphragm to help you breathe correctly instead of your lungs. When you fill up your lungs with air your chest expands which makes it harder for you to work the muscles in your chest. If you breathe from the diaphragm you are still taking in all the oxygen you need but it doesn't cause your chest to expand. Take some time to try out all of the different exercises that body builders do. You don't have to make a commitment to any of them; just try them out. This will help you learn which muscles get worked on by each exercise. It will be easier to plan a workout and to get results when you know exactly what you need to do to each part of your body. After all, if you want to build up your arms, you don't want to be focusing on a routine that only builds muscles in your back! When you take the time to explore and learn you are less likely to waste your own time and hurt yourself.

Have regular check ins with your doctor. Your doctor will help you ensure that your muscles stay healthy while you get in the workouts that you need to get in. Your doctor will be able to help you make sure that you are not causing undue strain during your workouts and that you are progressing the way that you should. Your doctor can also help you identify problems as they pop up and keep them from getting to advanced. The minimum you should do is see your doctor when you begin body building to make sure that you have the correct approach for your new fitness approach. If you want to get into fantastic shape body building is a way to do that. Most new body builders report that their main goal is to simply get healthy. It is only after a while that they shift their focus away from building health to building "prettiness". When you are new to body building it is imperative that you take the right approach to the sport. Don't forget that your first priority is to stay healthy. Don't take risks when you don't have to. Don't push yourself too hard or to fast. You will achieve your goals. To so so, you need to be willing to work consistently and to practice some patience.
