High blood pressure can have a variety of symptoms or none at all, however the only way to verify this dangerous condition is to have it checked. However, there factors that can make it more likely for you to develop high blood pressure as well as certain symptoms that can help you to recognize it. If you happen to notice any of the symptoms we discuss in this article for hypertension be sure to talk to your doctor.

What high blood pressure actually is, can be quite a controversy. Blood pressure is measured by two numbers called systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. A blood pressure reading of 140/90 or higher is referred to by most experts as hypertension even though many do not agree on what lower numbers mean. A blood pressure reading of 130/85 would have been considered normal up until recently. Now, however, many experts would call this prehypertension, maintaining that healthy blood pressure is below 120/80. While you should discuss it with your doctor, if your levels get above 120/80, you should begin to monitor your diet as well as your exercise.

If you have a stressful life and are easily made angry or frustrated, you may be at risk for high blood pressure even if you have no other obvious symptoms. Also, it has been found that high blood pressure and heart disease are quite common among those who have Type A personalities. With this information one can consider that stress is an early sign of high blood pressure. It is possible to control your stress and to learn to relax, even if your job or lifestyle are stressful. If you learn these techniques it is less likely that you could develop high blood pressure.

If high blood pressure is not controlled, it can lead to something called malignant hypertension, which is extremely high blood pressure. You might not have had noticeable symptoms when your blood pressure was only a little bit high, if you have malignant hypertension your symptoms are extreme and can include vomiting, nausea, dizziness and pain around your eyes. Losing consciousness is also a possibility in some cases. Malignant hypertension can sometimes pop up unexpectedly but it is more commonly caused by the failure to properly treat high blood pressure that is only a little bit high. Seek medical help right away if you start noticing the symptoms of malignant hypertension. High blood pressure can have a lot of symptoms but many people do not know they have it until they go in for a checkup or to get something else looked at. It's possible to get your blood pressure checked in most pharmacies but if you want your reading to be accurate you'll have to check it a few different times. If you have any of the symptoms discussed in this article, or if you have any of the risk factors associated with this problem you should talk to your doctor regularly and get your pressure checked often.
